To ensure proper placement of interpreters, we ask that you make your interpreter request at least one week prior to the date the interpreting services will be needed. We are able to accommodate last minute requests on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Lydia Callis directly at (917) 210-5804 for more information.
A minimum 2-hour interpreting charge applies to all assignments, with billing rounded to the nearest half-hour.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The ADA requires that equal access be provided to persons with disabilities by all public entities (for example, government offices, courts, public schools, etc.) and by all services which are provided to the public at large (for example, doctor’s offices, medical clinics, hospitals, lawyers, etc.). Generally, this means that such entities are required to pay for sign language interpreting services.
If you require interpreting services for more than 1 hour and 15 minutes, two interpreters will be needed. This is an industry standard, due to the fact that sign language interpreters experience mental and physical fatigue after interpreting an hour alone. In certain situations, such as medical appointments, only one interpreter will be required regardless of assignment duration. To provide the most effective communication for both deaf and hearing clients, we strive to provide team interpreters as necessary.
Please note that there’s is a 24 hour business day cancellation policy. If LCIS is not given advance notice of cancellation, payment for services is still required. If it is less than 24 hours, please make sure to contact LCIS so that we may inform the interpreter that their services are no longer required.
If you have any questions or would like to inquire about interpreting services, please do not hesitate to contact me.
